Lipodermoid

This young patient presented with a lipodermoid, a benign subconjunctival lesion. These fatty, yellow-white choristomas usually are located near the temporal fornix.

Lipodermoids can sometimes be extensive and involve surrounding structures of the eye. The condition occasionally may be associated with oculoauriculovertebral  dysplasia (Goldenhar syndrome). Differentiating benign lipodermoids from lesions with malignant potential is crucial.

Although they can cause ocular irritation, these noncystic congenital masses rarely require surgical excision. Even the most conservative approach may cause postoperative scarring; thus, most lipodermoids are best left alone.n
