Doctors who are similarly busy and distracted should make the time to connect with their employees. Clear an hour or two each week and let your employees know that you are available for an unscheduled meeting. Tell them you want to hear what excites, worries, or confuses them. This may well become the most productive hour of your week and lead to an improvement in staff morale and productivity.
Bottom line: Have an open door policy and let employees know that you are available and that they don’t have to wait for staff meetings or performance review to discuss anything that bothers them or is affecting their performance in the office.
