In 2014, the US Food and Drug Administration approved the general use of a novel carbon dioxide micro-ablative laser as a medical laser. In this video, Maria Sophocles, MD, FACOG, discusses why physicians are seeking approval of this device as an official treatment option for patients with certain vaginal and vulvar disorders, such as vulvar lichen schlerosus and genitourinary syndrome of menopause, and how this could be a new therapeutic option for these patients in the near future.
