My name is Dr Laurence Sperling. I’m the executive director of the Million Hearts® initiative. Also, I serve as the Katz professor in preventive cardiology and a professor in global health at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.
It’s important that all of you are aware of the Million Hearts® initiative. Million Hearts® initiative was launched in 2012. This a national initiative with the explicit and ambitious purpose with preventing at least 1 million heart attacks, strokes, and cardiovascular events in the United States.
The Million Hearts® initiative is a partnership between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services. I’ve been quite honored to serve as the executive director of this initiative since October of 2019. The audience—I know for this presentation—are those that are highly interested in cardiovascular prevention.
The Million Hearts® initiative works across its partners. We have several hundred partners in the [United States]. These partners are federal partners. We work across all 50 states, and we have partners that include many, many organizations.
I’m here today to ask all of you to be a partner with the Million Hearts® initiative because each and every one of us should be focused on cardiovascular prevention every day.
